Everton could make £350,000 due to Richarlison World Cup involvement

Everton could make a maximum of £350,000 from Richarlison’s involvement for Brazil at the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Mirror report (11 October) that the FIFA Club’s benefits programme will allow for the Toffees to earn £8,963 a day should the 25-year-old feature for Brazil in Qatar.

The FIFA scheme allows for compensation to be paid to clubs for whom the player has paid for two years prior to the World Cup. This allows the Toffees to be eligible for Richarlison and with Brazil one of the favourites for the tournament, there’s a chance Everton could make a significant windfall.

If Brazil reached the final, the former Toffee could earn Everton in the region of £350,000 due to the number of days he would’ve spent at the tournament.

The likes of Jordan Pickford, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye will also likely feature at the tournament. It’s certainly an interesting initiative from FIFA and quite why payments of £8,936 a day are needed for clubs is certainly up for debate.

The Premier League coming to a halt will be a unique challenge for a lot of clubs and managers to deal with. Many squads will be depleted, potentially making it harder for coaches to implement high-quality training sessions during the tournament.

For the Toffees, the break could well come at a good time after a solid start to their Premier League campaign. Heading into the new year with a fully fit squad and a clear plan for the January window will be what Frank Lampard is looking for.

The Everton boss is eager to get as many points on the board as possible heading into the extended break in November and December [Independent, 30 September].
