Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi ranks alongside top talents for most key passes in the Premier League

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has had the perfect start to the season starring in the Toffees engine room as one the club’s brightest talents.

Iwobi was moved by Frank Lampard into a central midfield role and has since thrived in his new position becoming a mainstay in his starting XI.

It will come as no surprise to fans of the Blues that Iwobi is ranking high amongst some of the Premier League’s top playmakers, he’s currently fourth-best in the league for one statistic.

Football’s largest detailed football statistics website WhoScored released the stats for the most key passes from open play so far in the Premier League season, a stat you want your midfielder to be part of.

“Alex Iwobi has made more key passes from open play (18) as Martin Odegaard and Jadon Sancho combined (17) in the Premier League this season.”

This a wizardry stat from Iwobi, a player who is slowly becoming one of the Blues’ best players, he actually might currently be their best talent at the moment.

Everton

The creative.

It’s stunning to see Iwobi rank alongside some of the Premier League’s finest talents, only Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Martinelli rank ahead of him.

That’s some fine company the Everton man is keeping, imagine if the Toffees can get in a poaching pro to make the most of these key passes.

Neal Maupay has had a decent start to life at Goodison Park, but he lacks the consistent goal threat that Toffees crave to spearhead their attack.

There are plenty of options for Lampard to explore in the market and ones that could be secured well within the Blues’ tight budget.

Once this has been sorted, however, it looks like Everton will have their supplier to their frontman locked down in Iwobi.

Lampard granting Iwobi greater license to roam forward has proved pivotal in his emergence as one of the Premier League’s key playmakers and long may it continue.
