Finance Expert: Everton can shop around for better deal as £9.5m partnership signed off

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Everton can shop around for bigger and better deals in the next year after signing a small extension to their partnership with Hummel, according to Dan Plumley.

The Liverpool ECHO reported that it is worth around £9.5million and is described as a club-record deal for Hummel to continue manufacturing their kits.

Finance Expert, Plumley, admitted that the shorter deals allow clubs to shop elsewhere should their stock rise during that year up until 2024.

“I think we’re starting to see more and more of this,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“The shorter deals for sponsorship like this, you link that back to short-term sporting performance as much as anything – the risk and reward that is associated with that is your sponsors don’t want to lock themselves into longer term deals now because if you do move between leagues and the worst happens then you’re locked into paying a price that is not reflective of the market or you look to put a reduction clause in.

“Also, for the club as well, they’re shopping around as well so, if their stock rises during that year, they may then go to a different partner in the future and able to get more.

“We’re seeing a lot more of this now, the pandemic is a factor too as people are still managing cash flows, but I think it works for both parties.”

Farhad Moshiri, Kevin Thelwell and the whole board have really come together in recent times, making real efforts to improve the club on and off the pitch.

This is yet more evidence that is working, with the next deal set to go above £10million if this success continues to rise at Goodison Park and then into the new stadium.

All eyes are on 2024 with another record partnership surely ready to be signed off at Everton.
