Everton hierarchy welcomed Dele Alli exit with open arms this summer

The Everton hierarchy welcomed the exit of Dele Alli with open arms this summer, according to The Mirror.

It is reported by the newspaper on its website that the England international was well off the pace at Goodison Park, and would have cost £10million after another seven appearances.

Alli instead was shipped the Besiktas in the summer transfer window, where things haven’t gone much better with only four appearances to his name before injury hit.

Writing in his latest piece for The Mirror, Josh O’Brien shared the reaction from those in the boardroom as exit talks began to take place at Goodison.

“Hopes were high he could recapture the kind of form that once made him so dazzling at Spurs, but the reality was Alli looked well off the pace from the moment he arrived at Goodison Park,” he wrote.

“This explains why he only lasted half of a season in the blue half of Merseyside under Frank Lampard, before finding himself in his current situation – on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas.

“Given the precarious financial position Everton were in at times last term, Alli leaving even on a temporary basis was welcomed with open arms by the club hierarchy.”

Critical.

As brutal as it sounds, Everton had no choice but to ship Alli out permanently with that clause sitting at £8million [Fabrizio Romano].

The playmaker was nothing short of shocking during his time at the club, and it was clear that his career had unfortunately gone miles down hill since his days shining at Spurs.

Now at Besiktas, that has only continued and the Toffees could find themselves in a position where he returns rather than seeing his loan switch turn permanent in Turkey.

Valerien Ismael has defended Alli, but Frank Lampard will be wanting that particular dilemma to stay away with the transfer policy having clearly changed this summer.

Proven players are coming in, with a sprinkle of youth too rather than just throwing money at the biggest name you can find, something that Farhad Moshiri has been guilty of previously.

Alli doesn’t fit in the plans here anymore and it is time to leave that one in the past.
