Tim Sherwood fumes at Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after error v Tottenham Hotspur
Tim Sherwood was not a fan of Jordan Pickford after he spilt the ball which led to a penalty in the Everton v Tottenham Hotspur clash.
Spurs ended up winning the game 2-0 and opened the scoring through Harry Kane’s penalty strike in the second half.
While the penalty may or may not have stood, had Pickford not spilt the ball, the attack would be killed and the Toffees could’ve launched one of their own.
Discussing this incident on Premier League Productions’ post-match review, Sherwood said at 20:09 on 15/10/22, “It was a tame effort but that’s very very poor from Pickford. He is England’s number one. Shocking effort.”
Pickford is a different keeper when he plays for England but for Everton, he does not maintain that level of consistency.
He’s been good this season, but this wasn’t acceptable and then to go on and give a penalty only made things worse.
We do think there was enough contact for Harry Kane to go down and he’s undoubtedly going to play on it so if the referee waved play on, we believe the call would not have changed.
However, on the balance of it all, the Toffees did not deserve to win and Pickford did not do himself any favours with that performance.
While he still will be first choice for club and country, these kinds of performances cannot continue and something certainly needs to change.
Lampard needs to ensure that he does get more consistent over time because he is the club’s long-term one unless he decides to leave.
