Everton very interested in £43million-plus-rated Lille striker Jonathan David for 2023
Jonathan David is a transfer target for Everton in 2023 with the club “very interested” in a deal, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
The Canadian international striker is attracting a lot of interest thanks to his excellent scoring form this season, where he has nine goals and two assists in 11 games so far, plus one of each across two internationals.
The Toffees have apparently not made a concrete offer for the man who is rated at over €50million [£43million], and may face an uphill battle with the Lille forward, 22, wanting a move to a “top 12 club in Europe”.
Writing on his personal Twitter account on Monday evening (17 October) the Sky Germany reporter said: “News [on] Jonathan David: Been told that Everton was very interested in a transfer in 2023 but there was no concrete offer!
“No option for the 22 y/o striker anyway. He wants to join a Top12 club in [Europe].
“Contract until 2025, NO release clause. Price: More than €50m!”
Hitman
It is no surprise that Everton would be interested in David, who has a scoring record of close to one in two in both the Belgian and French top flights so far in his career, and an even better 20 in 30 at international level.
Immediately the price tag becomes a stumbling block as it will do for other enticing attacking targets from Europe such as Mykhaylo Mudryk and Mohammed Kudus.
But with the back and forth between the club and Anthony Gordon’s representatives over a new contract dragging on there remains the possibility that the winger could be sold for big money come January, which would put the club back into the market for these players.

If the oddly-specific criteria of top 12 is accurate then that is no reason to rule Everton out either, as they are only 14th currently despite being in the middle of a tough stretch of fixtures.
A lethal goalscorer like David, at a good age, would be an extremely welcome addition to a squad which is lacking the finishing touches to a lot of good build up work at the moment.
With big clubs no doubt paying attention it could be a tricky race to win unless they move extremely fast, but Get French Football News mooted the Toffees as the right calibre of destination on 10 October due to his suitability to counter-attacking sides.
A striker like him would surely have been helpful in the first half against Tottenham on Sunday (16 October) so it would be very interesting if the club are able to bring resources together to make a concrete offer.
