Everton attacking problem laid bare after Newcastle United defeat
Everton suffered their third straight defeat in the Premier League on Wednesday (19 October) as Newcastle United edged a tight affair.
It was a very well-taken Miguel Almiron goal that separated the two sides at St James’ Park with Eddie Howe’s Magpies keeping yet another clean sheet – although they were helped by the Toffees’ biggest problem.
Frank Lampard just can’t get his side to create the necessary chances to score goals on a consistent basis and that is coming back to bite them at the moment.
BBC Match of the Day on Twitter brought the most alarming statistic of the Newcastle defeat to light as Everton managed just one shot all game in the North East and that didn’t hit the target either.
If that had been away at Manchester City where they were pinned in against a far better side then perhaps it could be understandable but Howe’s Toon or not at that stage or anywhere close just yet.
It was a fifth clean sheet of the season for the Magpies but they never had an easier one than this despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin returning to the starting lineup.
Lampard has to find a way to get more attempts on goal with their only goal in their last three coming through a wonder strike from Alex Iwobi at home to Manchester United.

They’ve only managed one shot on target since that moment, also against the Red Devils, having also drawn a blank at Tottenham Hotspur.
It can’t keep happening because it then means one moment of brilliance, as shown by Almiron on Tyneside, is enough to defeat Everton and leave them empty-handed.
There is no more hiding from that fact for Lampard who may have to do some tactical readjusting to get the entire team more potent in front of goal.
