Tim Sherwood picks Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsdale over Everton keeper Jordan Pickford for England number one
Tim Sherwood believes that Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsdale over Everton keeper Jordan Pick for the England number one in the World Cup.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Spurs manager believes that Ramsdale will be the one who will start the first game of the tournament.
This is despite Pickford being Gareth Southgate’s go-to option since he took over and also being the number one at the 2018 World Cup and the EUROs last summer.

Sherwood also says that the Three Lions will play in a back four even though they’ve been playing all games in the build-up to the tournament
There is no chance that Pickford is not the player who will be between the sticks for the tournament as he is someone who understands Southgate’s system inside out.
He’s capable of sweeping, playing short and long passes and is an impressive shot stopper as well.
Pickford undoubtedly is a better player for his country than he is for his club – much to the annoyance of the Goodison Park faithful.
However, over the last 18 months, his performances for Everton have dramatically improved and he’s not only a responsible player on the pitch but off it as well.
Ramsdale cannot be going into a major tournament for the first time and expect to be a starter.
Although he did technically go to the EUROs, he wasn’t the three goalkeepers picked by Southgate and was only drafted in after an injury to Dean Henderson.
He is yet to play in a tournament for them while Pickford has years of experience along with the pressure of handling penalty shootouts and crunch knockout games.
