Former Everton boss Sam Allardyce lifts the lid on his transfer dealings at the club
Former Everton and England boss Sam Allardyce has lifted the lid on his transfer dealings whilst at the Merseyside club.
The former Everton man Allardyce said he only had a say in two transfer dealings at the club, striker Cenk Tosun and Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.
Allardyce admitted that the two players he signed helped the Toffees towards an eighth-placed finish but transfer dealings at the club since he left haven’t worked out.

Speaking on the Keys & Gray podcast, Allardyce was asked about how many of the signings he took to Everton were of his doing.
“I only took two players, the two players I took, we had a conversation with the director of football,” said Allardyce.
“He came to the conclusion that what the value of those players were and what we needed to do at that particular time we all agreed that these were the two that we could get and could make a difference, Tosun and Walcott.
“We finished eighth in the end, not above the relegation zone but all the other players were brought along before me and all the players brought in since I left, unfortunately, haven’t worked out as well as they’d like.”

Interesting.
It’s fair to say transfers in recent seasons definitely haven’t been the Toffees strong point and the clubs’ hierarchy has wasted money countless times on frailing talents.
But for Allardyce to say that every transfer hasn’t worked out since he left is wide of the mark, there’s been a few gems crammed in between a lot of stinkers.
Just look at how Alex Iwobi is flourishing now, he was seen as a disastrous transfer at the time of his deal and has since gone on to prove every naysayer wrong.
And since Frank Lampard has taken the helm at Goodison Park, transfer dealings seem to have gotten a lot better, there’s an actual direction to what the Blues are trying to do now.
Summer signings like Amadou Onana highlight this change in trend and show the Toffees’ eagerness to invest in youthful talents from Europe’s top five leagues.
Next on the list for Everton has to be a tried and tested goalscorer, something the team has lacked for seasons now, if they can get that right, they’re onto a winner.
