Gary Lineker posts glowing immediate reaction at full time as Everton thrash Crystal Palace

Gary Lineker called Everton “excellent” in his immediate full time reaction to the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were too good for the visitors throughout the game and registered a morale-boosting win after three defeats.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, making his second consecutive start, was brilliant and opened the scoring, before Anthony Gordon tapped in at the end of a great team move, and Dwight McNeil combined wonderfully with Alex Iwobi to add a late third, leaving Lineker highly impressed.

Writing on his personal Twitter account at full time on Saturday (22 October) he said: “From start to finish, Everton have been excellent today.”

The result sees Frank Lampard’s side climb to 11th in the table and lift any growing pressure that had built after the games against Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle.

Delight

It was difficult to pick individuals out for praise on a day where nobody in a blue shirt had a bad game, but the return to form for the star striker was particularly pleasing.

He may still be slightly short of full fitness and his touch might have a little way to go to see him back to his best, but this was the closest fans have seen him to that level in many months.

His goal was excellent but his all round play suggested that his confidence took a major boost from it, although the supporting cast on the day were everything he could have asked for.

Everton

Alex Iwobi and Amadou Onana have become regular stand outs this season and it was no different at Goodison as both were on top form, with the Nigeria international producing two lovely assists.

The defence was solid, with James Tarkowski looking particularly strong in the middle, but Vitalii Mykolenko was a break out star as he showed strength and determination that belied his recent slump in form.

As if by magic the tough three-match run against sides towards the top of the table has now passed and Everton have returned to the side who were previously on a six-game unbeaten run, and surpassed that with their best outing of the season.
