Everton defender Conor Coady says team shouldn’t get too far ahead of themselves

Everton defender Conor Coady has revealed the team doesn’t want to get too far ahead of themselves and are focused on getting stronger.

Frank Lampard’s side bounced back after three successive defeats with a classy 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Coady admitted it would be “silly” of the team to get ahead of themselves before they’ve even begun and confessed the club is focused on improving.

“We want to improve, we want to get better,” said Coady speaking to TalkSport.

“I think it would be so hard and so silly of us to sit here now and say we want to finish here and we want to finish there and put unwanted pressure on ourselves.

“What we want to do is improve and get better.”

Rebuild.

You’ve got to remember the kind of football Everton were playing last season and the position they were in compared to now.

Sometimes, it’s hard not to get ahead of yourself but this is still a rebuilding project in its very early stages but the signs are promising.

There is now a mix of youth and experience in the squad and under the tutorage of Lampard, all components seem to be ticking along nicely.

The unraveling of Patrick Veira’s Palace side on Saturday was evidence of this taking place and the return to goals for Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be huge for the Blues.

One game is all it takes to change the team’s outlook to a positive one and it being at Goodison Park only added to the feel-good factor around the club at the minute.

Lampard still needs to improve his squad in 2023 and will have to bear in mind Coady’s comments about not getting too carried away with the options they currently have.

There is still massive room for improvement, but the Palace game was the ideal way to kickstart a good run of results before the FIFA World Cup.
