Amadou Onana makes Instagram tribute to Everton teammate Seamus Coleman

There is not a soul associated with Everton who does not have a love for Seamus Coleman and Amadou Onana has expressed his.

The 21-year-old Belgian international reshared a post from the official Everton Instagram account on his own profile’s story on 25 October with just one word to sum the Irishman up.

“Legend,” was all Onana had to say about the Toffees’ club captain who has made a number of starts recently amid injury problems for Scottish youngster Nathan Patterson.

Coleman has started five successive matches for Everton ever since Patterson was forced off injured for Scotland against his Republic of Ireland side on 24 September.

The 21-year-old is very nearly back to full fitness and even has a 50 per cent chance of playing when Frank Lampard’s side entertains high-flying Fulham.

Irreplaceable

Coleman is by no means the best right-back in the league and it would be difficult to suggest he should start over Patterson once the Scottish international is back to full fitness.

But his impact on the entire dressing room is undeniable and Everton would find it extremely difficult to replace him should he decide to either leave the club for a new challenge or retire from playing all together.

Everton

The younger players in the squad, like Onana, Patterson and Anthony Gordon need an experienced player like the Irishman who knows every nook and cranny of Finch Farm and Goodison Park to guide them.

Most importantly, Coleman understands the fanbase and what they demand as a very minimum for anybody playing in the famous blue and ensures that those standards are met by everyone.

He has been helped recently by the arrivals of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski who add more vital experience to the squad but his long-standing presence in the home dressing room at Goodison Park is still invaluable.
