Rio Ferdinand rushes to Frank Lampard defence after Everton win over Crystal Palace
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has rushed to the defence of his old foe at Chelsea Frank Lampard after Everton beat Crystal Palace.
Speaking on Vibe With Five, his co-host Stephen Howson was underplaying the job Lampard has done at Goodison Park.
Ferdinand was quick to silence him as he also waxed lyrical over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s performance in the 3-0 win over Palace.
“Frank Lampard… I thought Everton were going to get beaten, to be honest. I thought Palace would be too dynamic, having too much up front. Goodison Park plays it’s part. Dominic Calvert-Lewin back,” said Ferdinand at 43:05.
To which Howson responded, “Calvert-Lewin has definitely helped him but I don’t think he’s getting a tune out of the team that he’s got.”
Ferdinand then said, “They just won 3-0 against Crystal Palace. What are you talking about?”
Spot on
Being a Manchester United fan, Howson appears to have something against Lampard as he even went on to suggest he’ll get sacked soon.
Given the constraints he’s worked under, the former Chelsea manager has done a good job at Goodison Park.
Wrongly labelled a tactically naive manager during his time at Stamford Bridge, he has proven his critics wrong and has made important changes at the club.
Everton were a club that were soft at the back, but he’s walked in and made them one of the league’s strongest defences.
Conor Coady and James Tarkowski have arguably been the best centre-back pairing in the league this season and things are looking good for them.
He has also been having important one-to-one talks behind the scenes with players before games and that’s leading to improved performances on the field of play.
