Asmir Begovic addresses immediate Everton future amid lack of games
Asmir Begovic has addressed what his immediate future may look like as he nears the end of his current contract with Everton.
The Bosnian international has been the backup to Jordan Pickford all season at Goodison Park as he has been ever since he joined the club in 2021.
But at 35 years of age, Begovic does not have a long time left in his professional career and his future on Merseyside is up in the air with his deal expiring on 31 July 2023.

But despite his age, Begovic has no intentions of retiring anytime soon nor leaving Finch Farm unless the club don’t offer him a new deal.
“I’m committed to playing and want to be playing as long as I can,” he said to i News. “I really enjoy it at Everton, it’s a great group of goalkeepers and I love pushing myself and trying to do what I can.”
Invaluable
Only those within Everton will truly understand how important Begovic is to the squad atmosphere and partially the improvements on the pitch too.
He may have only played two matches this season (one in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup) but he is still more than good enough to be a first-choice top-division goalkeeper.

That ability has forced Pickford to maintain his incredibly high standards every time he plays because he is acutely aware that if he drops below the level required, Begovic will come in and keep him out.
The Bosnian has been very good in those two matches he has played this season, keeping clean sheets in both games, and Frank Lampard would have no problem in making him number one should anything happen to Pickford.
Having his experience in the goalkeeping department and dressing room overall has been a huge help for Lampard during what has been a chaotic time in charge of the club and he needs him to stick around a little while longer yet.
