Leon Osman backs Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score more goals

Leon Osman has backed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to get back among the goals at Everton this season.

Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal of the campaign on Saturday afternoon in the Blues’ convincing 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Osman confessed that the Everton team needs to “trust” themselves more going forward and that Calvert-Lewin will score goals from doing so.

“It is easy to say strikers need to bring goals, but we need more instinct from midfield to score goals and create chances,” said Osman speaking to the Liverpool Echo.

“If Dominic is fit he will score goals. We need to get further up the pitch and we need to make sure we get crosses in and trust ourselves on the ball.

“We need to trust ourselves to create more chances.”

Perfect timing.

Calvert-Lewin’s goal couldn’t have come at a more perfect time and it was massively needed for the forward’s confidence moving forward.

Injuries haven’t been kind to the Toffees frontman in recent years but Osman is right, when he’s fit and firing he will undoubtedly score for Everton.

The forward has the chance to pounce upon a Fulham defence on Saturday evening that has struggled so far this campaign.

Fixtures against Leicester City and Bournemouth also provide the Englishman with chances to bag some goals, it’s a crucial run of games for the striker to find some form.

Those two sides, along with Fulham sit in the bottom four of the Premier League for most goals conceded this season.

If Everton can manage to keep Calvert-Lewin fit he could propel the Blues up the table, now they have their defence and midfield ticking to the tune of Frank Lampard.

Calvert-Lewin will be hungry to impress, hopefully, he can thrive off the favourable fixtures coming his way.
