View: Everton should cash in on Yerry Mina in January amid Roma interest

Yerry Mina’s Everton contract runs out next June, so Everton should be looking to ship him off in January for any fee possible.

Mina joined the Toffees from Barcelona in 2018 for a £27million fee [Sky Sports], but the 28-year-old centre-back fell out of favour once Frank Lampard was appointed.

Conor Coady and James Tarkowski’s arrival in the summer showed Lampard’s lack of trust in Mina, and as a result, it seems his only option is to leave Everton either in January or next summer.

Italian outlet CalcioDangolo have suggested that Mina could find himself playing for Roma next season, with the Serie A side desperately needing defensive depth.

The report claims that Everton have “no plans to renew his contract” and that Mina will want to “change the air” after only featuring for 70 minutes this season.

The sooner the better

There’s no stumbling block that should get in the way of Mina leaving Everton. Lampard has made it blatantly clear that he’s not in his plans, so the Toffees should want him gone as quick as possible.

With Mina’s contract expiring next summer, Everton should be pushing for a small fee for him to leave in January. Roma will probably prefer to wait until he is a free agent, but offering them Mina six months in advance for just a small price could sway them.

Regardless of if Mina brings a transfer fee or not, getting his wages off of the books will be a huge boost to Lampard either way.

Selling or simply getting rid of him will free up finances for other transfer targets or contract extensions at the club, and that’s much more useful to Lampard than a fifth-choice centre-back.

With Coady, Tarkowski, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey, Everton have more than enough depth at centre-back, so it’s not as if the Toffees even have to worry about replacing him.

To put it bluntly, Lampard will be wanting to see the back of Mina as fast as possible, and Roma provide the perfect opportunity for Everton to get rid.
