BT Sport pundit: Everton could have signed Manchester City forward Erling Haaland at 15
Duncan Ferguson admits that Everton and Leeds United could have signed now Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for a bargain a few years ago.
The Norwegian’s father brought him to the club and they even had a chance to sign him for a bargain fee, but did not take the chance to secure his services.
Ferguson, who is also a BT Sport pundit, claims that £2million would’ve been enough for his former side to snap up the services of Haaland.

He said on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, “What a phenomenal player he is and I’ll tell you a story. Believe it or not he was in at Everton. He was in at Everton because his dad brought him in and they never signed him. He was 15 or 16.
“The team that he was with wanted a couple of million quid for him and Everton wouldn’t sign him. Nobody knew that and I’ve just told you.
“I’m pretty sure that if his dad took him to Everton he’d have taken him to Leeds because his dad played for Leeds.”
What could’ve been
Everton surely will now regret the fact that they did not take the gamble on Haaland who has gone on to become a quality player.
It can be argued that he’s already the best striker in the world and if not number one, he definitely makes the top five.
He performed exceptionally well at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund but Manchester City was going to be the real test for him.
It’s fair to say that he’s taken to life in the Premier League like a fish to water and is going to cruise towards winning the Golden Boot.
He has made an already strong team even stronger and they should be among the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
Alan Shearer too, is an admirer of Haaland and has waxed lyrical over his “World class movement” [Athletic] even before he joined Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Toffees now have some big decisions to make and hopefully, they at least get these ones correctly.
