Ian Wright delivers Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin England prediction ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022
Ian Wright expects Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s final England squad for the World Cup later this month.
Southgate has an array of attacking options to choose from and apart from Harry Kane, nobody really is guaranteed to be the other two or three out-and-out strikers.
Wright believes that it’s between Tammy Abraham, Ivan Toney and Callum Wilson and the Toffees striker is unlikely to be considered.

He said on Wrighty’s House at 18:50, “I think with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, if he was going to a team now, stayed injury free now until the end and it was the summer World Cup, he could’ve blasted himself in.
“However, I think it’s probably between Tammy, Ivan Toney and Wilson.”
Makes sense
We would’ve loved to see Calvert-Lewin at another major tournament but his injury record has not helped him.
He has missed many months of action including international breaks and Southgate has not really had the chance to work with him.
He’s also only just gotten back to playing regularly and despite scoring against Crystal Palace, still seems some way away from his old self.
A break from football would be a good thing in the one-month break as he can work on getting his sharpness back at Everton.
There will be friendlies and training sessions to keep players that aren’t at the World Cup fit and ready for when the action resumes again.
Hopefully, he does not let the World Cup omission affect him as there are the Euros in a year and a half and 2026 is also not too far away if he keeps performing at his best.
