Kevin Campbell fumes at Dermot Gallagher as footage emerges from Everton v Fulham
Kevin Campbell is furious with the referee decision not to hand Aleksander Mitrovic a red card in the draw between Everton and Fulham after hearing Dermot Gallagher’s explanation.
The Serbia striker caught Toffees midfielder Idrissa Gueye late with a tackle during the 0-0 draw on Saturday night, but only a yellow card was awarded and VAR saw no reason to overturn the decision.
After hearing former Premier League and FIFA official Gallagher tell Sky Sports that it was just a late tackle, Campbell reacted on his personal Twitter account [1 November] and was furious that it wasn’t given.
“I thought badly timed and mis timed were the same thing!?!?” was the tweet, in response to Stephen Warnock saying it was the latter rather than the former.
Campbell followed it up with lots of angry emojis, but ultimately the decision wasn’t given and Everton were able to keep Mitrovic out of the game to earn a point.
Poor decision
It’s a clear red card every day of the week and it’s baffling that these referees and ex-pros don’t think it is.
Whether it’s accidental or intentional, the outcome is the same. He doesn’t get the ball, he catches Gueye high up on the ankle with plenty of force and it ticks all the boxes for a red card.
Had he been sent off he would have had no complaints and those same people saying they didn’t feel it was a red card would be changing their opinion immediately, so they’re just trying to be difficult clearly.
Had that been Gueye on Mitrovic then you can bet he would have been sent off for the challenge so the lack of consistency in the decision makers is pretty damning.
It’s done now though and the club need to move on from it looking ahead to the clash with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon, and can be thankful that Gueye should be available and not nursing a serious injury.
