Sky Sports pundit excited by Everton pursuit of £20million-plus Weston McKennie after scouting
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Weston McKennie would be a “very good addition” to the Everton midfield despite the squad being stacked with options in midfield, says Kevin Campbell.
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs reported on Twitter (24 October) that Juventus were open to selling the American in January for north of £20million, and that the Toffees were one of a few Premier League sides who have already scouted him.
Campbell, former captain and Sky Sports pundit, has no worries over the midfield getting crowded because different games need different approaches and a player of McKennie’s quality is always worth bringing in.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Of course, there’s always room for another dynamic midfielder because what you want to be able to do is be flexible in your midfield.
“Because there’s times where you might want to change the system, you might want to change a player, or players, to have more dynamism depending who you’re playing against.
“I think he would be a very good addition.
“Again, you can never have enough good players. Never.”

Alex Iwobi and Amadou Onana are nearly undroppable for Frank Lampard currently, and while Idrisse Gueye has drawn some questions with recent performances his fellow deadline day arrival James Garner is pushing for game time behind him.
Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure are available after that, so there might be a danger that some players are on the wage bill without getting a game, especially considering Allan has already been sold in that situation, while Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have both been loaned out.
But McKennie is versatile, a good age at 24, and has extensive experience in Serie A, the Bundesliga, and at international level, so if the money can be scraped together he could be a useful option should Lampard decide to go for it.
