Everton loanee Lewis Dobbin can be a useful weapon for Frank Lampard

Lewis Dobbin was a name on the lips of Everton fans over the summer, the youngster was being touted to be the Blues answer to future goals.

The forward however, was subsequently loaned out to League One outfit Derby County, a smart move from Lampard and the Everton hierarchy.

After a slow start, Dobbin is starting to thrive at Derby, showing glimpses of the player Evertonians believe will be a mainstay at Goodison for seasons to come.

“Dobbin has looked like he has all the makings of a top footballer,” said BBC Radio Derby reporter Dominic Dietrich as quoted by The Athletic.

“He’s a ‘crowd lifter’ when he gets running at defenders, has shown pace to get in behind and off the ball, his press is fairly relentless. But it’s that crucial decision that he needs to add to his game.

“There’s definitely been an improvement. Early on, he was targeted by opponents and got an education in League One. Since coming in, there’s been a transition process to senior men’s football, he’s shown his ability to ride a challenge and club captain Curtis Davies summed it up nicely by talking about how ‘game’ he is and won’t back down from a challenge.”

“Relentless”.

The 19-year-old could be a useful cog for Lampard moving forward and he should look at bringing him back into the first-team fold soon.

He scored 20 goals and registered 13 assists whilst playing in the Everton U21s and U18s and is slowly showing that sort of form for Derby.

It’s maybe his relentless dribbling skills and pace at moving the ball forward which is his best attribute, one Lampard could mould into something far greater.

He’s an immense talent and it’s no surprise that keen Evertonians who keep their eyes on academy talent were rooting for him to make a first-team breakthrough this season.

Nevertheless, a switch to League One was the right one, for now, there’s plenty of time for him to come and mix it in the first team.
