Journo shares Everton transfer ‘understanding’ ahead of January window

There is an understanding at Everton that the upcoming World Cup will make January transfer negotiations harder, according to The Liverpool Echo.

It’s been suggested (The Echo, 3 November) that work to identify attacking targets has continued after a busy summer window.

However, it’s understood that the Toffees are “most likely” to look for deals that fit within their budget, rather than looking to break the bank.

The Echo’s Joe Thomas wrote: “While there is hope more can be gained out of the current squad, work to identify attacking targets has continued since the transfer window closed.

“If a deal can be found that fits Everton’s budget it is where the club is most likely to strike, whether through the loan or permanent market

“While efforts to strengthen Everton going forward is a focus for January there is an understanding the World Cup will make negotiations during that window harder.”

Continue the work

It’s crucial for the Toffees to continue their good work from the summer window, with Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell looking for value in the market. Everton must ensure they don’t fall back into their old habits of breaking the bank for older players who are well past their sell-by date.

Everton have already been linked with a number of players ahead of the upcoming window with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Daichi Kamada (Fussball Transfers, 2 November) the latest name to emerge.

There should be growing confidence around Goodison Park with the club in excellent hands with Thelwell at the helm. The Toffees will be looking to bring in younger players who can prove to be assets moving forward.

Everton face Bournemouth and Leicester City in their last two Premier League matches before the World Cup break with Lampard looking to really cement his side’s position in the top half of the table.

The Toffees will be making the trip to the South Coast twice in less than a week, with Bournemouth also their hosts for their upcoming Carabo Cup tie.
