Anthony Gordon woeful, Nathan Patterson impresses: Everton Player ratings v Bournemouth

Everton suffered their second defeat in a row as Bournemouth ran out 4-1 winners in the third round of the Carabao Cup at the Vitality Stadium.

Goals from Jamal Lowe, Junior Stanislas, Emiliano Marcondes and Jaidon Anthony were enough for Gary O’Neil’s side to book their place in the fourth round.

It was a night to forget for a number of Everton’s players and here Goodison News rates their performances out of ten.

Everton

Asmir Begovic – 6

Good night’s work from Begovic who made a couple of big saves with the score at 2-0. Couldn’t do anything about Lowe’s opening goal. Begovic wasn’t the reason why Everton lost this one.

Nathan Patterson – 6 (Man of the Match)

Pick of Everton’s players this evening, just. Looked to get forward and be positive as much as possible. Drove through the entire Bournemouth midfield in the first half during an excellent run. Untroubled defensively in the first half, but struggled in the second half. He gets Man of the Match mainly for being marginally less-worse than the rest of his teammates.

Everton

Ruben Vinagre – 4

The Portuguese left-back has struggled for minutes since his summer arrival and this performance won’t see Lampard looking to rotate Vitaliy Mykolenko anytime soon. With a left back high on the agenda for Lampard, he is clearly not impressed with Vinagre’s current performances. An opportunity missed for the full-back.

Michael Keane – 5

Poor performance from Keane who was run ragged at times by Bournemouth’s front line. Gave the ball away too often played a part in Bournemouth’s second goal. Didn’t look comfortable at all on the South Coast.

Yerry Mina – 5

To be fair to Mina he put his body on the line and at least tried his hardest, but he does look like a player who knows his time at the club is coming to an end. Was good in the air but looked suspect with the ball at his feet.

Mason Holgate – 6

A horrible moment in the lead-up to Bournemouth’s second goal. Was unfortunate to slip and was probably not at fault. The pick of Everton’s central defenders who struggled all night up against the likes of Anthony and Lowe.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6

Probably the pick of the Toffees’ midfielders, but that isn’t saying a lot. Doucoure held onto possession well and made a couple of important tackles. Wasn’t helped out by his teammates who were operating alongside him.

Tom Davies – 3

Really poor performance from the midfielder who gave the ball away for fun in the first half. Missed a guilt edge chance which was easier to score after he blasted the ball over the home side’s goal. Slowed the ball down far too often and was negative in possession. A performance which won’t have given Lampard a selection headache. He didn’t improve in the second half and was extremely fortunate to stay on the pitch for as long as he did.

Everton

James Garner – 4

It’s easy to see why Garner has been used sparingly by Lampard thus far. Really struggled to make an impact on the game and lost the ball a couple of times in the first half. Perhaps unfortunate to be hooked off instead of Davies, but not a performance to shout about from Garner.

Anthony Gordon – 2

Really poor evening from Gordon who was yet again completely ineffective going forward. Missed a guilt edge header in the first half and was extremely lucky not to have been sent off for a rash tackle in the first half. Hasn’t been himself of late and has certainly flattered to deceive in recent weeks. A night to forget for the 21-year-old. Needs to turn this dip in form around.

Everton

Neal Maupay – 4

He may as well have not been on the pitch in the first half, completely innocuous and offered very little for the Toffees going forward. After a couple of lively performances, his form has really nosedived since. Everton certainly look more of a threat when Dominic Calvert Lewin is upfront. Another striker has to be top of Lampard’s wishlist.

Dwight McNeil (on for Holgate, 51′) – 4

Demarai Gray (on for Anthony Gordon, 51′) 7

Alex Iwobi (on for Garner, 51′) – 6

Tom Cannon (on for Maupay, 80′) – 5

Stanley Mills (on for Doucoure, 80′) – 5
