Sky Sports pundit slams Anthony Gordon for wasteful moment for Everton v Bournemouth, ‘he gets it all wrong’

Everton fell a goal down to Bournemouth early on in their EFL Cup clash, and Anthony Gordon wasted a huge opportunity to draw the Toffees level.

Everton are at risk of seeing their League Cup campaign halted by Bournemouth after Jamal Lowe handed the hosts an early lead on Tuesday evening.

Frank Lampard made a handful of changes for the cup clash but decided to give Gordon minutes in order to help him rediscover his form for the Toffees.

However, the 21-year-old may just be lacking even more confidence after missing a huge opportunity to draw Everton level in the first half.

Tim Sherwood was hugely unimpressed with his effort and gave his verdict on Sky Sports (8 November, 8:00pm).

“It’s almost as bad as the [Tom] Davies chance. Anthony Gordon gets it headed down to him. He’s in the middle of the goal and mistimes his header – he gets it all wrong.

“It’s easier to hit the target, surely.”

From bad to worse

Gordon started the season on fire for Everton, but transfer rumours and noise around his future seem to really have put him off his game.

He’s still young and very inexperienced, and so Lampard may have to put his arm around Gordon and guide him through what is undoubtedly a tough patch in his career.

Regardless of whether Gordon leaves or stays in January and next summer, Everton need him back to his best as soon as possible and at the moment he’s struggling to get into the lineup.

A goal or two will do wonders for his confidence, but he needs to make sure he takes his chances when he gets them. Playing against a weakened Bournemouth side is an ideal time for him to etch his name on the scoresheet, but so far Gordon has continued to struggle.

At this rate, Chelsea and Tottenham’s interest may start fading.
