Tim Sherwood blasts Anthony Gordon after seeing footage of ‘disgraceful’ Everton v Bournemouth incident

Tim Sherwood went berserk at Everton star Anthony Gordon for his “disgraceful” tackle on Jordan Zemura during their Carabao Cup defeat.

The Toffees went behind early on through a deflected strike before Tom Davies missed an absolute sitter just minutes later, but they really struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Gordon was then booked for a nasty tackle on Zemura, and while appearing as a pundit live on Sky Sports (8 November, 20:30) Sherwood tore into the England Under-21 international and claimed he should have been sent off.

“I think he should have been sent off,” he said.

“Obviously it’s the Carabao Cup so there is no VAR tonight. I think if they had VAR, I think they would have taken a look at it and sent him off for a tackle on Zemura.

“You see it here, just frustration this. It doesn’t look too bad that, but when you see the replay I think you’ll agree with me that this is a red card and he gets away with that.

“That is a disgraceful tackle.

“It’s just pure frustration. He’s not had a touch of the ball, they’re not looking to give him the ball forwards. They’ve been very, very poor.”

Awful

There is something not right about Gordon right now, and he’s very lucky that he’s available to play again at the weekend in the same fixture.

Everton

It was an absolute horror tackle and for once the lack of VAR has gone in our favour because he almost certainly would have seen red otherwise and there would have been zero complaints about it.

He’s now been booked in exactly half of the matches he has played this season but has only managed three goals and no assists since we fought off interest from Chelsea to keep him around.

At this point though it looks as though he doesn’t want to be here, with shocking performances littering the campaign and he’s probably due a reality check by being dropped for an extended period.

Frank Lampard is obviously a big fan but if he continues to allow Gordon to get away with it, he’ll end up costing the team in the future and nobody at Everton will be able to say they didn’t see it coming.
