Ally McCoist shares Everton ‘guarantee’ live on talkSPORT after big loss v Bournemouth
Everton were unceremoniously dumped out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday (8 November) as Bournemouth ran riot at the Vitality Stadium.
Demarai Gray got the Toffees’ only goal of the evening but Gary O’Neill’s side were just too good for Frank Lampard’s fully-rotated XI.
Ally McCoist could not understand the seeming lack of desire from the fringe players who were given a rare chance to shine in the League Cup.
“He’s right. He is absolutely right,” McCoist said on talkSPORT. “But let’s get back to the big factor which is that the buck stops with Frank Lampard.
“We all know that, but he’s right. I mean, all game you had Mina, Keane, Patterson, Doucoure, Davies you know Maupay is playing, Anthony Gordon is playing.
“That team should be good enough, he has made the changes but that team should be doing a lot better, I feel so I think he’s absolutely right to feel let down by the players.
“You can guarantee that there will have been players knocking on his door saying ‘I deserve a chance’ well he gave it to them last night and that’s what’s happened.
“Dear me, you’d think that when you’ve been given the opportunity to get into the team when you haven’t been playing, you think you’d give it everything you’ve got and the result was miles away.”

Bigger games
As much as Evertonians would love to see their team lift a trophy this season, the fight to remain well clear of relegation trouble is far more of a concern for the club right now.
Everton can thrive in the Premier League if they are able to find a manager who can provide stability and get the club back towards the top half of the division, where they spent so much of their history in the 2000s and early 2010s.
Lampard may well be that but he has to build a squad that can win games in all competitions and not just 11 players like he currently has at Goodison Park.
Anthony Gordon will be the player he is most disappointed with having previously been his talisman at times both last season and this.
He has since fallen off the cliff somewhat and is now not even preferred to Gray or McNeil who were both previously comfortably in his shadow at Finch Farm.
