Everton must brace for Anthony Gordon bids as Tottenham reignite interest

Anthony Gordon may not be Frank Lampard’s main man at Everton right now but that doesn’t mean transfer interest in him has died down.

Tottenham Hotspur were very interested in signing him in the summer but no move materialised as the Toffees remained firm on their stance that he was not leaving.

But the 21-year-old has not matched his sensational form from the end of last season this time around and Antonio Conte is now keen on trying again to sign him in January, according to The Times.

Spurs are looking for reinforcements to find the spark in the side again after some supporters were disgruntled with their defensive style of play despite their high league position of fourth.

If Tottenham really do want Gordon again, then they could easily start at a much lower price than the eye-watering numbers that had been floated about in the summer.

That means Everton may have to play the long game once again and wait as long as they can to try and squeeze every last penny out of Spurs and really test how much they want the England Under-21 international.

It really is a win-win situation for the Toffees as they will either keep an extremely talented young English player for themselves or they will pocket a huge amount of money to then reinvest into the side.

There are plenty of positions where Lampard will want to sign an upgrade and a winger would be one of them with Gordon not even starting the last league fixture against Leicester City.

Spurs’ reignited interest could easily entice more clubs to enter the race which will only raise the price tag even more as everybody tries to one-up each other with how much dough they have to spend.

Either way, it should be a highly profitable January window for Everton regardless of if Gordon decides his time on Merseyside is up for now.
