Mohammed Kudus is making a summer plea to Everton with his latest Ajax comments

Mohammed Kudus saw a move to Everton blocked by Ajax in the summer, but the Toffees may return with a bid next year after his latest comments.

Everton headed to Amsterdam with a £15million bid for the 22-year-old winger in the summer, but after losing a number of key players already, Ajax turned down the offer. [The Independent]

It was a blow to Frank Lampard’s transfer plans, but Kudus recently admitted that he “wanted something new” in the summer amid interest from Everton.

“I wanted to try something new. That’s normal in football. We all want to play. And if you don’t play, you have to look further to be able to do that,” Kudus told Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad, as quoted by Sport Witness.

“I am a player who likes to challenge himself. This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings.”

Kudus’ comments don’t sound like a player that has his sights set on a long-term career at Ajax, and that will be music to Lampard’s ears.

His interest in Kudus won’t have faded this season – if anything Everton are in desperate need of a new winger after Anthony Gordon’s recent struggles at Goodison Park.

Kudus’ 10 goals in 19 games for Ajax this season will undoubtedly inflate Ajax’s asking price in the summer, but it has also reaffirmed that the Ghanaian international is living up to his lofty potential.

As a player that “likes to challenge himself”, the Premier League will certainly be of interest to Kudus, and Everton can offer him consistent game time at a team in ascendence.

Kudus continued in the interview to rule out a January move with his current focus on finishing the season at Ajax, but Everton should be already prepping a summer bid worthy of luring him to Merseyside next year.
