Tony Pulis blasts ‘laughable’ Everton on BBC radio in defeat v Bournemouth

Tony Pulis has blasted Everton after the Toffees conceded a “laughable” second-half goal during their 4-1 League Cup defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Goals from Jamal Lowe, Junior Stanislas, Emiliano Marcondes and Jaidon Anthony were enough for Gary O’Neil’s side to emphatically book their place in the fourth found.

Pulis was less than impressed with the defending for Stanislas’ goal at the beginning of the second half.

Talking on BBC Radio 5 Live (20:54, 8 November), he said: “It was absolutely laughable how Bournemouth scored the goal. You’re not supposed to shout at players now but Frank Lampard has got to get into Everton because this just hasn’t been good enough.”

Forget this, and quick

The performance against Leicester could have been looked at as a one-off for Everton but this one is certainly concerning for fans. The Toffees were dreadful in possession, lacked creativity and were all over the place at the back.

Tom Davies looked like a player devoid of confidence and completely lost on the pitch. James Garner didn’t take the opportunity given to him and Ruben Vinagre continues to struggle in a Blue shirt. For Lampard, the last two results have cast a damaging cloud over the start of the season.

Everton

Everton now head into the World Cup break with doubts over their current performance levels. The Toffees simply have to perform better when they travel to the South Coast to face Bournemouth again on Saturday (12 November).

The Cherries will be full of confidence heading into the fixture fully aware that they have the beating of Lampard’s side at the moment. Failure to pick up a victory will leave Lampard with plenty of things to consider.
