Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure have fight on hands to stay at Everton

Everton midfield duo Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure have fights on their hands to save their futures at the club, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Both the midfielders are in the final year of their respective deals, and they haven’t done enough to force Frank Lampard into offering them a new contract yet.

In the case of Doucoure, the Toffees do have the option to extend it for another year. The player is keen to stay put, but he is not a first-team regular at the moment.

Big decision

Lampard spent a lot of money in bolstering the midfield during the summer, and he may continue to bring in more midfielders in the next few transfer windows as well.

The Toffees boss signed Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye in the summer, and they have become regulars at the club under him.

The club already sold Allan, and Lampard could offload more players. The problem for Davies is that he has to fight against Alex Iwobi to grab his place. Lampard has completely transformed Iwobi into a quality midfielder, and he has been arguably one of the best players at the club at the moment.

James Garner is a young talented lad and he has been signed on a long-term deal. Lampard can afford to integrate him into the squad slowly, but for Davies, it looks really difficult at the moment.

The same can be said about Doucoure. Lampard won’t drop Onana, and the Frenchman will have to wait for his chances.

Doucoure can still be a very good squad player if the Toffees decide to extend his contract, but Davies probably needs to move away from Everton to play regularly.
