Everton must reignite interest in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay in January
Everton boss Frank Lampard is ready to bring in new faces to the club in the January window, according to a report from The Times.
The Toffees signed Neal Maupay in the summer transfer window but he hasn’t turned out to be a big hit at the club so far.
Ideally, Lampard will require another striker, especially with Dominic Calvert-Lewin picking up a fresh injury.
The Toffees should also look to add depth and quality in their attacking midfield areas as well.
During the summer, Everton signed Dwight McNeill who is gradually settling in at his new club. But the likes of Demarai Gray and Anthony Gordon have been quite frustrating, and more quality is required upfront.
That is why they should look to sign Memphis Depay instead.
Depay has dropped down the pecking order under Xavi at Barcelona and has made only two La Liga appearances this season.
Last season, the Dutch winger scored 13 goals for the Catalan club in all competitions.
According to a report from 90 Min, the former Manchester United player is happy to return to the Premier League, and Everton must not miss out on this opportunity.
During the summer window, the Toffees made an official approach to sign Depay. Spanish newspaper SPORT reported on their print edition [06 August, pg. 11] that the Catalan giants were looking to offload some of their players, including Depay.
Depay will be keen to start a new journey after a disastrous season so far and could be available at a reasonable price.
He is a vastly experienced player who has scored 147 club career goals so far. He has managed 42 goals for his country as well.
The Dutchman can play in multiple positions, and he could add tremendous depth and quality to the side.
