Alan Shearer furious as Gary Lineker points out Everton ‘controversy’ on Match of the Day

Alan Shearer was furious at referee Craig Pawson for not stopping the game for a head injury as Everton were beaten comfortably by Bournemouth again on Saturday.

The Toffees fell to a 3-0 defeat to the Cherries just days after a 4-1 thrashing against the same opponent in the Carabao Cup, leaving them just one point above the relegation zone heading into the World Cup break.

But after James Tarkowski collided heads in the build up to Bournemouth’s second goal of the game, host Gary Lineker and Shearer were furious that the referee didn’t stop the game for him to receive treatment.

Speaking on BBC One’s Match of the Day on Saturday night (12 November, 1h12m26s), Lineker said: “A bit of controversy around Kieffer Moore’s goal. Frank wasn’t happy with that at all. Thoughts?

Shearer said: “I agree with Frank. I mean, Everton were rubbish today but he has gone down there with a head injury and the referee Craig Pawson should actually blow up there. Tarkowski goes in with a challenge with Solanke and you can see straight away. The referee should’ve stopped it so I agree with Frank on that.”

Awful

The performance was terrible and we didn’t deserve anything from it anyway, but this is another instance of shocking officiating from the officials going against us.

It’s not as if the Tarkowski injury was in a position that didn’t affect the game and result, because he was laid out in the middle of the six-yard box during a scramble in that area.

In fact, Keiffer Moore leaped over his stricken body to head home his goal and the referee then decided to run over and wave on the physio to tend to him, rather than stopping the game when he was supposed to.

It didn’t ultimately have an effect on the result because we deserved to lose and were shocking, but if the referees fancy doing their jobs properly at some point that would be ideal.

Now we have an extra long month break for the World Cup while we stare over our shoulders at the relegation zone and hope that Lampard can find a way to correct the things that are going wrong right now ASAP, with pressure on his job growing.
