Nottingham Forest want to sign Everton defender Michael Keane, he could be tempted

After falling out of favour at Goodison Park Michael Keane may leave Everton for a Premier League rival in January, according to the Sunday People.

Michael Keane has struggled for game time at Everton following the signings of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady in the summer, and a move to Nottingham Forest could now be on the cards.

Nottingham Forest showed interest in a loan move over the summer, and they are now ready to return to try and sign the 29-year-old permanently in January, according to the Sunday People.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (13 November, page 55) that Forest manager Steve Cooper is a “huge admirer” of the centre-back, and that the chance to play regular first-team football may “tempt him”.

Forest sporting director Filippo Giraldi was also spotted watching Keane during Tuesday’s defeat to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

A win-win situation

Keane is now in his fifth year at Goodison Park, and while he’s been a good servant to the club during his time in Merseyside, the Everton defence is evolving under Frank Lampard.

Lampard clearly felt he couldn’t trust the defence already at the club after last season’s relegation dogfight, and he invested in Tarkowski and Coady as his first-choice centre-back duo.

It left the likes of Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Keane all scrambling for minutes and truthfully the Toffees could do with offloading a couple of their outcasted defenders.

Lampard gave his second-string players a chance to impress against Bournemouth in the cup but they let him down massively and proved that they need to be offloaded.

If an offer arrives on the table for Keane, then the club should seriously consider letting him go. The squad desperately needs refreshing and Keane’s departure opens up a space in the squad for a new arrival.
