Everton make significant behind-the-scenes changes as Kevin Thelwell stamps his mark

Everton have promoted Charlie Reeves to the position of Senior Lead for Performance Insights, according to the Training Ground Guru.

The move is the latest in Kevin Thelwell’s “big changes” at Finch Farm since arriving in the role as Director of Football in February as he tries to shake things up for the Toffees.

Reeves joined the club in 2017 as a first-team data analyst and has progressed up the hierarchy to his new senior role ever since then.

“After each game, Stats (now Stats Perform) send me a spreadsheet containing every touch of the ball, where it happened on the pitch, the time it happened and who was involved,” he said to Training Ground Guru about his previous role.

Everton are still hoping to make further additions to their backroom staff in the coming months with a Head of Performance Analysis the main focus right now.

Transformation

It is far more evolution than revolution at the moment for Thelwell and Everton but they will need to bring in some fresh minds as soon as possible to try and help the club turn around their horrid form in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard has overseen a sudden downturn in form which has left them just 17th in the table at the time of the World Cup break and there is worry around Goodison Park that relegation could be a real proposition this season.

The pressure is on for all of the senior figures on Merseyside to perform with Thelwell having to find the right people for the roles that need filling while not taking out all of Lampard’s transfer budget.

The boss, meanwhile, has to somehow find a way to turn around this dreadful form and Reeves could now be a key person in that process thanks to this promotion.
