Everton news emerges on Frank Lampard sack during World Cup break

Everton have no appetite to sack Frank Lampard as manager despite the recent poor run of form at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees have suffered defeat in six of their last eight games in all competitions, with just one win in that period and two embarrassing losses to Bournemouth in four days which left them just one point above the relegation zone and out of the Carabao Cup.

But writing in his column for the Daily Mail (13 November), journalist Dominic King says the guidance from the club is that Lampard is safe for now and agrees with the decision.

“The guidance from the club yesterday, however, was that there is no appetite for change. Good,” he said.

“The last thing Everton need is more upheaval. Their problems run significantly deeper than the man on the touchline.”

Interesting

There’s no doubting that Lampard has improved aspects of the club during his time here, but that doesn’t mean he’s the right man going forward and there’s a reason why fans are split.

Since coming in he has managed to unite the fan base and the club for the most part after a period of turmoil off the pitch and on it, but a lot of that good work is being undone at the moment.

Lampard brought in defensive stability in the early part of the season, but they’ve suddenly forgotten how to defend and a serious lack of goals in attack mean it’s nigh on impossible to win games.

Without those issues being addressed the club face yet another relegation battle, and there is no guarantee that they will have the quality to get out of it again considering how tight the league is this year.

A more experienced coach could be the answer, but the club will never get anywhere if they’re constantly chopping and changing managers, so there’s an argument he should stay too.

Whether he stays or goes, the board must back whoever is in charge during the World Cup break and January transfer window with whatever he needs, or there is a real danger of dropping down a division with this current squad.
