Everton surely prepare for Jordan Pickford exit as club eye Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba
Jordan Pickford has been in consistent form for Everton over the past two years and the club will soon be looking to tie him down to a new contract at Goodison Park.
The 28-year-old has seemingly cut the errors mostly out of his game and has been the Toffees’ saviour at times over the past year. His current deal comes to a close in the summer of 2024, and Frank Lampard has previously confirmed the club are in talks with Pickford over extending his stay.
However, there may well have been some alarming news for Evertonians to digest as it was reported (90min, Tuesday, 15 November), that a number of Premier League clubs, including the Toffees, are targeting Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba.
This may well come as a bit of a concern to the Goodison Park faithful, with Pickford previously being linked to Manchester United (The Telegraph, 24 September), Everton could well be lining up a potential replacement for their influential keeper.
David de Gea’s current deal comes to a close in the summer of 2023, and although United do hold an option for another year, his future is currently uncertain.
Evertonians will be desperately hoping for the links to Samba to be Lampard and the club hierarchy looking for a top-class backup option for the England goalkeeper. However, considering how well Samba is playing the Lens, it’s unlikely he would be content as a number two.
Getting Pickford tied down to a new deal quickly has to be top of the club’s to-do list heading into the World Cup break and January transfer window.
