Tim Cahill shares Frank Lampard verdict when asked if he’s happy with Everton boss

Ex-Everton striker Tim Cahill believes Frank Lampard is a “good young manager” but admitted the Premier League is a “results-based business” amid growing speculation over the manager’s position at Goodison Park.

Pressure has mounted on the much-maligned Lampard following a run of six losses in eight games and back-to-back thumping defeats to Bournemouth on the south coast.

Now sitting just one point above the relegation zone, the Everton board will be mulling over the future of the head coach and could use the winter break as a chance to part ways.

Everton

When speaking to talkSPORT on Wednesday 16 November, the 42-year-old expressed his hopes that Everton can get back to winning ways after the six-week World Cup sabbatical.

He said: “You’re judged by results but Lampard is a good, young manager.

“He understands what Everton need but it’s a results-based business.

“Hopefully the players come back fresh and we can charge up the table.”

Untenable

Lampard’s position as Everton manager now hangs by a thread after a group of highly animated Toffees fans hurled abuse at the team at the Vitality Stadium.

It isn’t just the apparent lack of goals which is a worry for Everton fans, but the number of goals conceded – which they hoped had been fixed by the summer signings of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski.

Having shipped seven goals in a week against Bournemouth, and only netting once in their last four games, the World Cup break has come at the perfect time for Lampard, who will now have six weeks to mastermind a return to form.

The Merseyside club will also be keeping a keen eye on proceedings in Qatar as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.

Whether Lampard will last till January is yet to be seen. Still, with discontent within the fanbase reaching boiling point, the board will be hugely tempted to make a managerial change during the World Cup hiatus.
