Everton stay in hunt to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres in January

Everton are one of the clubs that are interested in signing Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres in the January transfer window, according to a report from 90 Min.

The Yellow Submarines are braced to lose their star player in January, but they will demand a high transfer fee, which could be a club-record fee for them.

The 25-year-old has been linked with an exit in recent years, but it never happened. This time, the club is ready to sell in the January window, with the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves, and Manchester United could be interested along with the Toffees.

Torres has a £55m release clause, but they are unlikely to demand that fee. But any potential club will still need to pay over £40m to sign him in January.

Terrific addition

Torres is a class player and he would be a terrific addition to the club.

He has been playing at a high level for the past few seasons, and he would definitely add tremendous depth to the Toffees’ side.

Everton are likely to sell the likes of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane in the January window which could open the path for a new arrival.

Frank Lampard added two quality defenders in the summer in the form of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski and has options in the form of Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey as well.

Torres would be a massive signing for them, but will the Toffees pay a premium fee for his signature when they need to bolster other areas of the pitch?

The club badly need to sign a striker in January following the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while another attacking midfielder would be a handy addition.

Torres may fancy joining a side that can offer him European football. While Torres has a high chance to leave Villarreal, Everton have a pretty low chance of signing him.
