Conor Coady future at Everton in doubt after Wolves development - talkSPORT pundit

Darren Bent believes Conor Coady’s future at Everton could well be in doubt after Julen Lopetegui was appointed Wolves manager.

The Telegraph reported (5 October) the Toffees were set to trigger a £4.5million deal to sign the 29-year-old from their Premier League rivals.

However, Bent has suggested the defender could well go back to Molineux with new manager Lopetegui potentially being a fan of the England international.

“Even someone like Conor Coady, because he’s only on loan. He might go back to Wolves and Lopetegui might like him, but you don’t quite know,” said Bent (talkSPORT, 01:40, 17 November).

Unlikely

It does feel as if Coady’s time at Wolves has probably reached its natural conclusion and that Everton will be his home for the considerable future. Despite the Toffees’ poor form of late, Coady has developed an excellent partnership with James Tarkowski and has been one of the club’s better performers in the 2022/23 campaign.

The Goodison Park hierarchy should be looking to get a deal completed for the defender as soon as possible, with £4.5million looking like a complete bargain at the moment. Evertonians will be keeping a keen eye on developments at Wolves as the Spaniard takes charge in the Black Country.

Coady will now be 100 per cent focused on the World Cup in Qatar as Gareth Southgate’s team look to emulate their superb run to the Euro 2020 final. It looks unlikely for Coady to start for England, but, having an experienced character around the group will be vital for England if they wish to progress in the competition.
