Tottenham Hotspur still monitoring Everton star Anthony Gordon ahead of January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in signing Everton forward Anthony Gordon in the January transfer window, according to Football.London.

The Toffees saw off serious interest from Spurs and Chelsea during the summer transfer window, opting to keep their academy starlet having already sold Richarlison earlier in the summer.

A £60m deal was mooted but never took place, but despite Gordon struggling for form at Goodison Park this season, Antonio Conte remains interested in bringing the 21-year-old to north London.

“Gordon still has three years left on his contract with the Toffees and his value has remained steady with suggestions in the summer that Everton would only hold out for a similar price tag to the one that saw Richarlison make the switch to Spurs,” they wrote (20 November).

“Any move for Gordon will be far more difficult in the January transfer window rather than next summer but football.london understands Tottenham will continue to monitor his situation in case an opportunity arises.”

Sell?

During the summer the general consensus around any potential deal for Gordon to leave the club was looked at negatively, because we had just avoided relegation and he was a big part of that.

But when reports of a £60m deal with Chelsea came to light many fans were happy to see him leave if it meant reinforcements would come in with the money, but obviously it never happened.

And now, after half a season where Gordon has really struggled and managed more yellow cards than goal involvements, many fans would be happy to see that back of Gordon.

There is no doubt that the winger is immensely talented, but his head was seemingly turned by the summer chase for his signature and getting him out for a big fee to be able to strengthen the squad in other areas could be ideal.

It’s been a really tough season so far and the team is currently one point above the relegation zone, so something must change. Gordon going could be exactly what’s needed.
