Lucrative contract update emerges as Everton ready January transfer move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres

Coventry City are reportedly hoping to fend off interest from Everton, West Ham and Southampton for striker Viktor Gyokeres.

According to Football League World [24 November], the three sides along with Crystal Palace are readying January moves but the Championship side want the 24-year-old to stay at the club.

They are planning to offer him a “lucrative” new long-term contract in January to ensure that Premier League sides cannot lure him away.

The Toffees do need another wide attacker in January and they could look to the Sweden striker as the answer to their problems.

The lack of goals has been concerning for Frank Lampard’s side and signing the 24-year-old would address those woes.

He has been in form recently and also leads the goal-scoring charts in England’s second division.

Signing him ahead of the other Premier League sides keen should not be too difficult for Everton as they’re all in similar positions on the table.

However, if he signs a long-term deal, he’s going to be an expensive prospect for any team keen on signing, particularly the Toffees, given their long-drawn financial woes.

Gyokeres was on the club’s radar in the summer as well so there’s a longstanding interest in him and a January move under the right circumstances makes a whole lot of sense for Everton.
