View: Everton wonderkid Isaac Price is shining in Australia and forcing Frank Lampard's hand
Isaac Price may find himself being given plenty of first-team opportunities at Everton this season after impressing in Australia.
With the World Cup now well underway, Frank Lampard jetted the remainder of the Everton squad to Australia to compete in the Sydney Super Cup.
It was intended to maintain fitness levels and match sharpness, but it’s also given Lampard a glimpse at some future stars coming through the club’s youth system.
One academy prospect that has stood out is Price, who played the full 90 minutes against both Celtic and the Western Sydney Warriors this week.
The 19-year-old midfielder was a standout performer in both matches and he’s clearly caught the eye of Lampard.
“I thought Isaac was great. He’s had a great trip,” said Lampard after the 5-1 win over the Western Sydney Warriors, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.
“He has matured a lot and he has deserved to play because of the way he has trained and the way he has played for the Under-21s so he’s thrown himself into the equation for the first team now.”
The Australia tour certainly feels like a second pre-season, and there always tends to be one youngster who emerges as an Everton first-team candidate during that time.
Price is certainly grasping that opportunity with both hands, and he could save Lampard a headache or two about midfield signings over January.
The Northern Irish midfielder looks assured on the ball and technically gifted, and looks likely to build on his appearance tally after his Premier League debut in the 5-1 defeat to Arsenal on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
