Alan Sugar sends Frank Lampard message as Everton finish Australia tour
Frank Lampard recieved and didn’t reply to a message sent to him by Alan Sugar on Twitter following the Everton tour and participation in the Sydney Super Cup.
The Toffees manager has eased the pressure on his job following a penalty shootout win against Celtic and a comprehensive victory against Western Sydney Wanderers, in which Anthony Gordon netted a sublime hattrick.
And following their tour in Australia, 75-year-old Sugar reached out to Lampard on Twitter, as he tweeted: “Frank Lampard, are you in Sydney.”
The businessman didn’t get a reply from The Toffees boss, as he returns to England and prepares for their first Premier League game back against Wolves on Boxing Day.
For Lampard, the Australian tour was an opportunity to try out a few younger faces from the academy, with the likes of Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Pickford all on international duty in Qatar.
Although they laboured through a goalless 90 minutes of action against Celtic, Lampard managed to get his side’s attacking flair finally ticking with a stylish 5-1 victory against the Western Sydney Wanderers.
The form of Gordon would have especially impressed the Toffees boss, as he finally got the goals he has deserved after several tough weeks of Premier League action.
The winger’s hattrick was just what the doctor ordered, and Lampard will hope his star player can continue this fine goal-scoring run when returning to the Premier League.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out injured, and Neal Maupay struggling to kick-start his Everton career, the mantle has fallen on the youngster to deliver the much-needed goals the Merseyside outfit requires.
