Pundit destroys Everton star Jordan Pickford after what he saw at Qatar World Cup 2022
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been blasted by ex-England defender Paul Parker, who has labelled him as “average”.
Pickford is currently in Qatar with the Three Lions for the World Cup and started the opening game against Iran in a 6-2 win and is expected to start against the USA on Friday night (25 November).
But while England are among the favourites to win the tournament after their display, Parker isn’t convinced by the Everton stopper and told Futbin (24 November) that he doesn’t expect them to be successful while Pickford is between the sticks.
“Most teams that have won the World Cup have had a world class goalkeeper,” he said.
“It is very difficult to go far in the major tournaments if your goalkeeper is average.
“But England hasn’t had a world class goalkeeper since David Seaman. He was a top goalkeeper and Jordan Pickford is not. It’s as simple as that.
“Jordan Pickford is a very erratic goalkeeper and a top class goalkeeper is calm.”
How much more does Pickford have to do to start getting some credit for his performances in an England and Everton shirt?
For the last two years Pickford’s form has improved dramatically. He’s cut out silly mistakes for the most part, has become far more vocal and shown great leadership and is pulling off fantastic saves on a regular basis.
And when he pulls on an England shirt he seems to go up another level, constantly performing well and at the highest level during the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2020 when they reached the semi-finals and final.
Had England won that shootout against Italy in the summer of 2021 then this wouldn’t even be a conversation and Pickford would be considered one of England’s best ever goalkeepers.
He’s not perfect by any means, but this is just a pure nonsense statement from someone who seems to have a personal agenda.
