Everton make contact to sign Chicago Fire striker Jhon Duran, Liverpool also keen

Everton and West Ham United have made contact with Chicago Fire striker Jhon Duran with both clubs eying a January deal, according to Alan Nixon.

The newspaper journalist has suggested (Patreon, 27 November) Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested in the “powerful” Colombian.

It’s understood the 18-year-old has been advised to join a “smaller” side to get more game time rather than sit on the bench of one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

Nixon suggests most of the clubs on his trail are looking to conclude a deal quickly, with Chicago Fire set to sell to the highest bidder.

Needed

This is exactly the type of signing Everton should be looking to make with the striker still in the early stages of his career. He’s scored goals in the MLS and has also represented his country at international level. With his contract ending in 2024, this could also be a good value move for Everton to look into.

If Duran does move to Goodison Park, he could go on to be a real asset for the Toffees moving forward. Kevin Thelwell was always going to look to sign younger players with a high ceiling and Duran does tick the boxes for the Toffees.

Everton

Everton’s board desperately need to improve Frank Lampard’s attacking options and it’s been revealed (Liverpool Echo, 27 November) adding more firepower is the club’s “top priority”. If the board fail to add some attacking talent in January then the Toffees could well be facing another tough end to the season.

Another relegation battle would be an absolute catastrophe and cannot be contemplated by the board.
