Sky pundit reacts as talkSPORT man moots Julen Lopetegui to take Conor Coady back from Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Julen Lopetegui is not going to have the chance to bring Conor Coady back from Everton because the deal is “already done” says Kevin Campbell.

The former Real Madrid and Spain boss took over from Bruno Lage at Wolves on 14 November, in a move that saw talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent suggest three days later that the Spaniard may like the on-loan Toffees centre-back and keep him at the end of the season.

But as far as Campbell is concerned the idea is going nowhere because for the Sky Sports pundit Coady is now mentally ingrained at Everton already.

“No I think it’s already done,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“The deal has a ‘buy me’ clause at the end of the season and I can’t see that changing.

“Conor Coady is obviously a key person at Everton now. Very good in the dressing room, and he’s back home in Liverpool.

“So I don’t see that [a Wolves return] having any legs.”

Coady has been arguably the the signing of the season at Goodison Park, rivalled only by defensive partner James Tarkowski, and the club surely want to keep him.

There are undeniable issues in attack currently but the defence looks largely settled, although losing the ex-Wolves captain would throw a huge spanner in the works of that situation.

It would undeniably be a considerable blow for the Merseyside native to return to his parent club, and which side’s intentions take precedence over the permanent transfer clause will be important, although the player himself looks to have made his mind up which could be the key factor.
