Everton wonder Stanley Mills reveals WhatsApp message that changed his career

Stanley Mills was at home with his parents this summer when he received a WhatsApp message that would change the trajectory of his Everton career.

The highly-rated youngster was preparing to join an Everton Under-18s and Under-21s joint training camp when he received a message from the club to join Frank Lampard’s first team.

Mills confessed “it was crazy” to receive the message at such late notice and he’ll never forget the surprise inclusion in the Blues pre-season squad that changed his career.

“It was crazy,” he told the Liverpool ECHO in response to receiving the WhatsApp message.

“I was at home with my parents and was like ‘guys I’m going to America’. They were buzzing for me. I was buzzing.

“It was just surreal really… I didn’t think I was going. I think a couple of days before the tour they said I was going to York with the U21s so then I got the itinerary for the first team sheet and I was on it so I was buzzing. It was a surprise.”

Since the fate-changing WhatsApp message, Mills’ career has gone from strength to strength for the Toffees, he will be a mainstay in the side for seasons to come.

The teenager has now been part of two overseas tours with the club, recently stepping up to take a penalty against Celtic on 20 November 2022, which he unfortunately missed.

Nevertheless, He’s also made his first-team debut and been handed a new contract that will see him be involved in plenty more Premier League matchday squads.

It’s an exciting time for Mills, who will be given every opportunity to shine under the youth-encouraging Lampard at Goodison Park.

Reece Welch, Tom Cannon and Isaac Price are other youngsters to look out for in the Blues youth setup who will likely feature more in the coming months.

At 16-years-old the sky is the limit for Mills, he’s definitely one to watch out for over the next few seasons.
