Sky Sports pundit reacts as Everton chase surprise midfield signing Dennis Geiger
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Frank Lampard is preparing to shift some current Everton midfielders as he looks to bring in Hoffenheim man Dennis Geiger, says Kevin Campbell.
Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on 21 November that the Toffees were “highly interested in” the 24-year-old German, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Despite having extension options at that position and attack the higher priority for Everton now, Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes the manager will have seen enough of the incumbent midfielders and is ready to shift some that he doesn’t “fancy”.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I think it’s the squad, he’s been able to assess that. He’s going to have to shape the squad how he wants it.
“No disrespect to any player but if the manager doesn’t fancy you he’s going to change. It’s the manager’s right.
“There’s a lot of players at the club who haven’t been bought by Lampard, but by different managers over the years and it needs cleaning up.
“It does. It needs cleaning up.
“Lampard I think is going to do the right thing. Given time, and I know that’s a very difficult thing to say in football, I think he’ll do a really good job.
“Whether he gets the time or not I don’t know.”

Tom Davies and Abdoulaye Doucoure will immediately be looking over their shoulders if the manager is pursuing more midfielders, with the duo’s contracts set to expire in the summer.
Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and Alex Iwobi have been virtually ever present in the starting line up this season, with the back up options struggling to make a dent aside from next man up James Garner before his injury.
If Lampard can see the opportunity to swap out some players he doesn’t see a long-term future with and bring in candidates he think can improve the standard he will do that, as long as he is afforded that time to follow through with future transfer plans he has been a part of.
