Andros Townsend has no future at Everton after latest transfer development

Frank Lampard has made it abundantly clear what he needs at Everton in January, and that means there may be no room for Andros Townsend anymore.

The former England international has been missing for most of 2022 after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury against former club Crystal Palace back in March, and has been seen in Qatar doing punditry with his leg still wrapped up.

He is hoping to make a return to first-team action early in 2023, but considering talk that Frank Lampard has made a right winger his priority for the upcoming transfer window, it may not be with the Toffees where he returns.

Everton

So far this season Everton have struggled massively for goals, scoring just 13 goals in 17 games across all competitions and only 11 in 15 Premier League games.

Anthony Gordon, Demarai Gray, Dwight McNeil and Alex Iwobi have all had a chance to nail that wide spot down as their own but have all struggled to really make an impact.

This left Toffees fans waiting for Townsend to make his return, with the pacey, left-footed ace potentially able to make an immediate difference by offering natural width in his natural position.

His current contract at the club is set to expire in the summer, and with his return date currently unknown to anyone and Lampard basically looking to replace him in the squad already, it seems as though a decision has already been made.

Obviously Lampard won’t look to freeze him out, and should he recover in time to make an impact this season he’ll get his chance, but whether he’ll be the same player or not after such a serious injury is doubtful.

He won’t be sold in January considering the injury he has, so he will get a chance to fight for a place in the Goodison Park dressing room, however his future looks bleak.

Lampard has made his decision and is looking elsewhere, so it’ll be incredibly hard to see Townsend still at Everton beyond the summer.
