Gary Neville reacts to Everton defender Conor Coady’s jibe during ITV World Cup coverage

Gary Neville has reacted as Everton defender Conor Coady was included in a brutal jibe live on ITV coverage of the FIFA World Cup on 1 December 2022.

Coady was being shown clips of Geoff Hurst’s hat-trick goal in the 1966 World Cup final to which he critiqued the poor defending, reminding the interviewer of Neville.

The Everton defender hilariously responded by saying “don’t say that” to which Neville politely rebuffed that Coady will “definitely” be a pundit.

“He’ll definitely be a pundit if he’s looking at it from a defender’s point of view,” said Neville in response to Coady’s comments on ITV’s live coverage of Spain’s final group stage clash against Japan.

With his quick wit and articulate nature, Coady may well be in line for a future in punditry once his career comes to an end.

Value for money.

The summer loan deal to bring Coady to Goodison Park was one of the shrewdest bits of business completed by any Premier League club.

Paired with James Tarkowski at the heart of Frank Lampard’s Everton defence, the two Premier League veterans have flourished.

Yes, there has been a dip in form from the team as a whole, but these issues largely lie with the Toffees poor attacking options, not Coady or the defence.

Everton’s hierarchy has had a lot of criticism over recent years and rightly so, but they got this Coady deal and Tarkowski signing completely right.

More sensible transfers like this would see the Blues in a completely different place right now, it’s crazy what a few good dealings can do isn’t it?

The January transfer window presents Everton with the chance to get things right up top, and this combined with a sturdy defence will do wonders for results.
